Gimmie A Break
By Paul Wein
It seems that whenever there is a disaster in this world there are people willing to make a joke out of it. And considering the fact that September 11th was the worst day in American history it was only a matter of time before someone with a sick and twisted sense of humor pounced on the tragedy and tried to make a joke out of it.
The first one of these sickos sent out a picture all over the Internet that was supposedly taken by a tourist just seconds before the first plane hit the Twin Towers. The picture was allegedly recovered during the rescue operation and the roll of film was developed to find a man standing on the Observation Deck of Tower #1 posing for a picture with an American Airlines plane behind him just moments away from crashing into the Tower.
It is so obvious that this picture is a fake that I should not even waste my time discounting it but I will anyway. First of all, I have been to Ground Zero and seen the devastation first hand, and I can tell you that no camera would have survived a fall from one hundred and ten stories. Second of all, the man in the photo is wearing a winter jacket and a ski cap. On September 11th the weather was exceptionally warm that day hardly weather for a heavy jacket and hat. Also, the entire picture is blurry with the exception of the plane and the date stamp on the photo which are both crystal clear indicating that they were digitally added to the picture of the man who obviously has way too much time on his hands and a sick sense of humor.
Another sick weirdo has sent pictures of the exploding towers all over the web with a portion of the smoke and flames circled because he believes that the Devils face can be seen emerging from the smoke.
I have heard some sick things in my life but this one has to take the cake. Granted, the September 11th attacks were the most evil thing to ever happen in this country but I doubt that the Devils face emerged from the flaming towers. Lights and shadows can play some really sick tricks on you especially with explosions that large which is precisely what those faces are simply light and shadows.
So while everyone can use a good laugh try and remember that some things are not funny and should not be made into a joke.
