In 1996, I discovered the World Wide Web. In doing so, I realized that there are millions of places on the Web where you can read stories, get pictures – and learn about people and what they do for a living. So in 1998, I decided that since practically everyone else has their own rest stop on the Information Superhighway – I should too. So I opened my own website.
When I first launched my own website, it was called “Weinsworld” and contained some photos and the pennies I have written. Then, in 1999, I decided that if I was going to have a place on the web – I should get my own “dot-com” name. Being a simple person and not one for nicknames or slogans, I decided that if I was going to have a website about me, what I have done and what I am doing – that I should call it the same thing I call myself. So I scrapped “Weinsworld” – and opened Paulwein.com.
The website has changed content, appearance – and even webmasters since I bought that name two years ago. And now, I am very happy to say that it is finally starting to be where and what I want it to be – just like everything else in my life.
The man behind my website is my friend Gabe. For without him – all the content you see here would just be on my laptop for my eyes only. Gabe is the one that is responsible for taking my life and “FTPing” it to the world. The owner of Megaphat Industries, Gabe has an impressive clientele and a vast knowledge of web design – whereas I am lucky I can even log onto the net – which is why I leave my cyber-self in his hands.
Since he took over the site in 1999, he has made many changes and modifications to the site – but the most recent are the ones I have liked the most. And the amazing part is – he did it all on his own without even consulting me – and I still love it. That is why I have Gabe do my site, because he knows me as a friend and can understand what it is I am looking for. Sure, there are times when we argue about the site and it’s content – but that’s because I want things a certain way – and so does he. But after a little argument – all is forgotten and the site is done.
Of all the changes he’s recently made, which consist of a new front page, updated text and new photos – my favorite change has been giving me the ability to post my own pennies – which really comes in handy when I write a dated piece. Since he has given me the ability to post my pennies myself – I noticed that I am writing a lot more. In the past, I would have to wait for Gabe to post a column – which sometimes would be in a day or so. Now, I can type the last word of my latest column and have it on the web a minute later.
So as the letters “www” seem to be becoming more and more a part of our lives, I can rest assured that when someone drives into my home on the Web – that they will like what they see thanks to the content I have on the site – and the friend that puts it there.
