What Do You Mean I Was On Vacation?
By Paul Wein
Last month, I was lucky enough to go on two of the most relaxing, enjoyable – and amazing vacations I have ever went on. First, I traveled to the home of the Rocky Mountains – Denver, Colorado and spent a weekend with some of the members of my South Park Booster Club. Then just eleven days later – I traveled to one of the most breathtaking, majestic – and serene places on Earth – Juneau, Alaska for eight days to meet an old friend.
But now that I have been back from Colorado for over a month and back from Alaska for more then two weeks – it doesn’t even feel like I went to either place anymore.
Believe it or not – I honestly feel as if I did not go on either vacation at all. Although I obviously know that I went and I have souvenirs and memories of both trips – it really feels as if I haven’t gone yet, or never went at all.
Maybe it’s the fact that my life is so hectic, maybe it’s the fact that the two places I went were such a different world then what I am used to – or maybe I just miss both places so much – but whatever the reason – those two wonderful vacations feel like they never even occurred.
I guess that happens to most vacationers. To spend time away from your life doing absolutely nothing – and then return to the daily grind of life tends to negate the vacation you were just on entirely. I just didn’t think it would happen to me – but it has – because I feel as if I never went at all.
Don’t get me wrong, I am happy to be home and excited about getting back into the swing of things – but now that I am back – I just wish that the two places I visited just last month didn’t feel so far away.
But they do.
