If You Want To View Paradise, Simply Look Around And View It
By Paul Wein
I would not consider myself a world traveler, or someone that has been to many places, but I have been on my share of excursions. But I can say that of the few places that I have been in my life Alaska is by far the most picturesque, breathtaking and awe inspiring.
As my last of three planes was approaching Juneau I gazed out the window as I was flying over the state of Alaska and saw a blanket of thick white clouds with snow covered mountain peaks poking through. It was as if I was looking at Heaven itself. And when I landed the view only got better. The enormous mountains that seemed to be everywhere were all that surrounded us as Montel and I drove into town. We were even greeted by an eagle that flew alongside us as we drove from the airport. To see our national bird flying near a giant snow covered mountain was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
This morning after a much needed cup of coffee, Montel and I continued my tour of Alaska when she took me to he Mendenhall Glacier. An eternity-year old monument of frozen ice that stands as a pristine blue landmark representing this great land of blue skies, tall trees, immense mountains and great people.
Besides the view the air is just as breathtaking. After waking up in Alaska this morning, I have been able to breathe easier then I ever have before. Back home, it seems as if my nose is always stuffed but here in Alaska I can breathe a lot easier.
So now after a day long journey that had its share of problems, delays and layovers I am finally here in Alaska to spend the next week seeing the sites, having a blast and getting to know an old friend.
And this is only day one.
