Up There, There Is So Much Room
By Paul Wein
It may be 11:40am in New York but its 10:40am here in Minnesota where I am sitting and waiting for my next flight that will take me to the same state as my destination but still leave me three stops away. As I sit here in an airport yet again and set my watch back for the first of two times today, stretching the day longer and longer my head is still in the clouds as I recall how amazing the view out of the airplane was window as I traveled here this morning.
As the plane picked up speed to take off and my adrenaline pumped as quick as the speed of the plane because I love takeoffs I watched the Twin Towers get smaller and smaller until they disappeared as we disappeared into the clouds and began our two and a half hour trip to Minnesota.
I was very excited to watch the plane take off this morning because that is my favorite part of the flight and thanks to a very strong sleep aid I missed both takeoffs when I went to Colorado and came home so I was planning on staying awake this time. And even though I was tired this morning staying awake for the view I saw was well worth it.
No matter how hard I try, I could not describe the view I saw. To be high enough in the air where there is a ceiling of blue sky above me and a carpet of clouds below me that occasionally breaks to reveal entire neighborhoods that are only the size of my palm gave me such a tranquil and calm feeling that I felt like it was me flying. Seeing that view reminded me why I love to fly on planes so much.
Even when we started our landing, the view was just as incredible. The towns that were once the size of my hand now began to resemble a mother board of a computer because it looked like boxes of cubed structures with roads leading from one box to another just like a mother board. Seeing that amazing view showed me just how amazingly put together and structured this great country is. I find it so incredible that while people used to spend months traveling across this great land on horses and in wagons I will make the same trip in one day thanks to the airplanes that make the same trip at hundreds of miles an hour all the while providing an incredible view.
The best part is, that while I am this excited about my flight that just ended another one is about to begin.
Next stop Anchorage.
