A Penny For My Thoughts

C’MON ALREADY!

By Paul Wein

Right now, it’s Tuesday morning at 10:15am and I am sitting behind my desk at the DOB. My body may be here – but my mind is already in Colorado. And while my bags are packed and I am ready to go – I have to work the rest of today and all day tomorrow before I can board that big ol’ jet airliner – are you kidding me?

Why does it seem like the last few days have been going by at the speed of a three toed sloth? I remember saying “Happy New Year” like yesterday – and now – this week is going slower then the last six months.

It’s quite obvious as to why I feel like the last few days have been going by like weeks – because I want to go on vacation already. Since I received my confirmation number from jetBlue, I have been pumped about actually going away. And speaking to my fellow Conventioneers each day and hearing their excitement is getting me so fired up about the Convention that I want to change my flight from 9:20pm tomorrow night to right now.

Besides the fact that I am actually going on a vacation – this trip to Colorado is so much more then that. Gathering with me in the State where the fictional town of South Park is located are people I have communicated with for almost two years. From daily and loyal “Marklars” to the occasional poster – all of us are converging on the same location so we can spend three days together – because of a show that we all love – and a club that I moderate.

As much as I try to picture it – I can not even come close to the feeling I will get when we are all seated together and the Convention begins. From the activities planned, to the camaraderie – to just being able to meet the people who’s names I know so well is going to be one of the greatest events in my amazing life.

When the idea of a South Park Convention was brought up, I thought it was a great idea – but did not think it would actually happen. After all, I did not expect people to abandon their lives to fly to Colorado to party with a bunch of other South Park fans simply because while I would – I didn’t think anyone else would want to – and now – the first annual South Park Convention is tomorrow.

And tomorrow can’t get here fast enough.

“Vacation, all I ever wanted.
Vacation, had to get away.”
