I’m Not As Rich As Henry Ford Is, But That Doesn’t Mean A Thing
By Paul Wein
Considering the fact that this has by far been the absolute best year of my life, I have been contemplating a lot lately about where my life is right now – and from where I stand – I could not be in a better place.
I am so happy with where my life is at this moment in time that I am unable to wipe the smile off of my face. From my jobs and the perks that come with them, to my home, to my friends – to the new lady in my life – who could ask for anything more?
Let’s start with my jobs. As Press Secretary for the Department of Buildings, I am in the paper at least once a week, and was recently in a story where my name was bolded because – as the New York Post told me – I am someone of notoriety. If that is not cool enough – I just received – as part of my job – a brand new 2001 Chevy Impala. What is a better perk then a brand new twenty-two thousand dollar automobile for nothing? Add a laptop, beeper, cell phone and badge to the list of perks – and you can rest assured that I will be DOB’s Press Secretary until the day I retire because I truly love this job as well as the perks that come with it.
While my job at DOB is great – my tenure as South Park’s Booster Club Moderator is just as hella sweet. From getting e-mail greetings, actual fan mail at home – and flying to Colorado next month to be the honored guest for the first annual South Park Convention – being Moderator has brought more into my life then I have brought to South Park – and I love every minute of it.
Hosting Ring Fever has also made the enjoyment factor of my life escalate tremendously. I love working with the wrestlers I watch every Monday and Thursday – and having wrestling fans chant my name and ask for my autograph is something I never dreamed would happen to me. Combine those three positions – and I can say with pride that I have no need to update my resume.
My home – which is a duplex apartment with a homebar that is hands down the best place I have ever called home – is a place I look forward to waking up in every morning and falling asleep in every night. In my past, I always called the places I lived in, “my castle” – this place is “my palace”. With all the positives of every other house I lived in and then some – I have no desire to move again – ever.
The friends I have are some of the best I have ever had. They are fun to spend time with, great to have at parties – and are always there for me when I need them, as I try to be when they need me. From my minor acquaintances to my closest friends – I am blessed with a clique of friends consisting of people I can truly say I am very happy to know.
Besides all of the other things in my life – Christine really has had an incredibly positive impact on me in a very short period of time. Besides her unmatchable beauty, she is a great person to spend time with whether the time is with friends, at parties – and all alone. Besides everything else she is – she is a great buddy – which to me, is very important. No matter what we are doing – I always enjoy her company – and constantly crave it when we are apart.
So taking all of these aspects of my life into consideration – I’d say that my life is in a pretty good place right now. What bothers me though – is that there are some people I know who’s lives are not where they want them to be. To them I ask – why not?
I don’t understand why some people allow their lives to be somewhere that makes them unhappy. Look at me, I did not do anything special to get where I am. I simply believed in myself enough to know that whatever I wanted could be attained. Sure I worked hard – but working hard by itself is not enough unless you believe in what you are working for and have the self-confidence to know that what you are striving for is within your reach.
To anyone who is not where they want to be in life – just remember – there was a time I was not either – but I knew that I wanted to improve my life and believed that I could do just that – and look at me now.
