A Penny For My Thoughts

The 100th Day Of The Best Year Of My Life

By Paul Wein

Today is April 10th, which is the 100th day of the 365 days in 2001. Despite the fact that this year is not even half over – it is already the absolute best year of my life.

From getting re-acquainted with almost everyone from my past, to making new friends, to starting to receive “fan mail” from both South Park and Ring Fever, to getting told by the Mayor himself that I am doing a good job at the Department of Buildings to countless other reasons, 2001 is definitely the best year I have ever lived through.

Whenever I say “Happy New Year!” at midnight on January 1st, I always wonder what kind of year is in store for me. I ponder the next 365 days and anticipate a great year – because nobody wants to have a bad one. So I make a wish on New Year’s Day that the year ahead will be full of success, good health – and of course – happiness. This year – my wish came true and then some.

In the last 100 days, I have gotten re-acquainted with so many people from my past that I have lost count. From good friends to co-workers to ex-girlfriends, its like I have my own time machine. But besides getting re-acquainted with some old friends – I have made some great new ones. I have made new friends at work, new friends from home – even new friends from as far away as California and Alaska. So between my old friends, my new friends – and my current friends – I think my next party will be held at Madison Square Garden.

In addition to the friends I have made – I apparently have made some fans as well. So far this year, I have gotten dozens of letters from fans of mine from both South Park and Ring Fever. To me, the fact that someone took the time to sit down and write me a personal note in their own handwriting telling me that they think I am great for doing something that I love to do is amazing and something I will always cherish. It gives me such a thrill to know that “my fans” think I am good at what I do and want me to continue doing it – so I will.

Besides the jobs that I do, my home is also very important to me. After Sandy and I broke up and she took her stuff, I decided to re-decorate the house. So after moving some furniture and hanging some pictures – the house looks great and is the best place I have ever lived in.

Although some truly wonderful things have happened this year – there was one event this year that was terrible – and is one of the worst things that ever happened to me – losing Bradd. Although this is a great year, I lost my best friend five days into 2001. Having to live the rest of my life without Bradd is something that I will never get over, but I thank God for the twelve years that we did have together and will carry his spirit with me the rest of this year and the rest of my life.

The best part about 2001 is that there are 265 days left and there is so much more that I will experience this year. There’s the South Park Convention in June that has me as the celebrity guest, there’s my trip to Juneau Alaska on the fourth of July to see an old friend that I never met, there’s dozens of tapings for Ring Fever – and another eight months left of this fabulous year – the best year of my life.
