Who’ll Stop The Rain?
By Paul Wein
Grey skies, piles of broken umbrellas in corner garbage cans and enormous puddles on the streets can only mean that it has been raining a lot lately – but when will it stop?
I hate rain. If I wanted water to pour down on me, I would have taken a shower. For the last few days it has been raining like crazy, and last night – it was the worst of all. The rain was coming down so hard that it only took a few seconds of exposure to the rain to get you soaked. Add in the wind that was at least fifty miles an hour and you get a monsoon that caused drivers to lose visibility, umbrellas to snap like twigs – and my apartment to get three leaks – one in the front window, one in the kitchen, and one in the bedroom.
Besides the obvious reasons to hate rain, I can’t stand when it rains because the rain does so much more then get you wet. It alters your plans, effects your mood – and makes the days seem longer.
Take yesterday for instance. I went to meet Doug for lunch and was soaked by the time I got back from lunch because what does an umbrella do when it is raining horizontally? After work, I had some errands to run and just the trip from one store to another got me drenched – and then I get home to find that it is also raining inside my house. So now I am soaked and so are my floors.
I woke up this morning hoping that the rain was over – and of course it is still raining. This weather has been so bad lately that I can’t remember the last time we had a nice day. All I seem to remember are cold, windy and rainy days – isn’t it Spring?
So if Mother Nature is listening, how about throwing us a little sunshine and saving all of this rain for a rainy day. After all – isn’t it supposed to be April Showers?
