Thanks For The Infection
By Paul Wein
Yesterday morning, I downloaded my e-mail like I always do and when I went to check it, I saw an e-mail from someone I do not know with the subject, “Romeo & Juliet”. Getting e-mails from strangers is common for me, having South Park and Ring Fever, so I opened it to read what it says. To my horror, the e-mail was, instead of being a friendly e-mail – a computer virus.
I have been sent dozens of viruses since I first pulled onto the Information Superhighway, but this is the first one that made it through my virus protection program and actually infected my computer – and I am really, really angry about it. I can not imagine why people would purposely devise something to screw with everyone’s computers. If you have that kind of computer knowledge, why not put it to good use? Why must you create a malicious program and send it to people you don’t even know?
So now, I can not use any of my documents, pictures, or forms, and I will probably have to re-install everything on my computer – thanks a lot.
I think the worst part about getting a computer virus and the reason I am so angry is that there is absolutely nothing I can do. I can’t retaliate (not that I would – but I would love too), I can’t report the person because I don’t know who it is and I don’t know where to report them – and worst of all – I have to hope that after I re-install everything – this does not happen again – but sadly, all I can do is hope.
So to my fellow e-mailers – be careful. When you check your e-mail and see an innocent e-letter from someone you don’t know – it could be a virus – so watch out.
And to the “person” that was kind enough to infect my computer, I hope that you are happy with a life that causes other people inconvenience, annoyance – and anger. And while we may have anti-virus programs to delete the computer viruses you and your fellow vermin create – I wish we had a program to delete the human viruses like yourself.
