A Penny For My Thoughts

I Seemed To Have Misplaced My Summer

By Paul Wein

In looking at my calendar today, I noticed that there was only 27 days of Summer left until the Labor Day weekend. I then realized with great sadness that I have been so busy this year with all that I am doing – that I managed to let the entire Summer slip right through my fingers.

As horrible as that is to admit – it’s true. I have been so wrapped up in projects, schedules and deadlines that I have let my favorite season go right past me without having done hardly any Summer-ish activities this year at all – how sad.

Summer is always my favorite time of the year. The time of year when life is the most magical. Where the warm Summer breezes and the golden Summer sunsets set the tone for days and nights that are unlike any other. The Summers of 1998 and 1999 were the two most incredible Summers of my life. Those two amazing Summers were filled with so many magical days and unforgettable nights that they seemed to have lasted forever. It seemed like those 14 weeks between Memorial Day and Labor Day felt like 14 years – this Summer – it felt like 14 days.

While it was my busy schedule that prevented me from taking full advantage of the season for the most part, the weather also played a major role in the disappearance of the Summer. With constant heavy rains and humid, sunless days replacing the beautiful Summer weather that usually comes with the season – a day at the beach or the pool had to take a backseat to days in air-conditioned rooms watching rented videos. So whatever time I did have to “get my tan on”, if you will, was not possible due to the unusually wet weather we got this year.

So while I did get a lot of things done this year in the way of household and business projects – I didn’t get the chance to take full advantage of the Summer the way I have been for the last few years.

Maybe next year
