Paulie And The Brain
By Paul Wein
I have had many friends in the 38 years of my life. Some I have known for years through work, some I have been friends with through the South Park Digest – and one I have known since the age of three. But of all the friends I have had – very few have I given the distinction of “best” – because on some occasions – that has come back to bite me in the ass. But I do have one best friend that is truly one of the nicest people I have ever met – and one person who I hope to be friends with until I no longer walk this Earth…
…Brain.
Named Brian, but called Brain due to being on the Ring Fever crew and to his almost unprecedented knowledge of professional wrestling, Brain and I met during a Ring Fever taping and he almost instantly became a member of our Ring Fever family. Always “humble” by his own admission and never too proud to assist us in any way, Brain was an instant asset to Ring Fever – but was sadly placed in a minor role behind the scenes and behind a clipboard instead of his rightful place in front of the camera – which I am proud to say is where he is now.
With the current resurgence of Ring Fever, I needed a new sidekick. Before I could decide who it should be, I recalled that every time Brain and I had a conversation – we would spend hours on the phone talking about our favorite pastime and quoting lines from old matches and statistics from years past. From recalling Jimmy Snuka’s leap from the top of the cage onto Don Muraco to “The Montreal Screwjob” – Brain and I can finish each other’s sentences when discussing wrestling…
…and then it hit me.
Brain was the perfect choice to be my sidekick when Ring Fever rebooted. And not even a month and one taping in – I can say that he has done an amazing job. From interviewing the TNA superstars in our hometown of Brooklyn, New York, to running the Ring Fever message board, and as my co-host on the Ring Fever radio show – he has truly shown why he is indeed the Brain. In fact, his tagline on the message board is, “Proud to be Paul Wein’s protégé” – and I can’t tell you what that means to me.
As we go forward with our television show and our friendship, I know that both will successfully grow and flourish. Brain is an amazing guy who has not lived the life he deserves and had his share of tough luck. Any woman in this world would be treated better by him than any other man in this world. He has incredible character, is loyal to his job of nearly 20 years – and someone I am damn proud to call one of my best friends.
And Brain, you always thank me for including you in Ring Fever and for our friendship…
…no Brain – thank you. Thank you.
