There’s Still No Cure!
By Paul Wein
On August 1, 1999 – Ring Fever was born. Since that day, we have filmed thousands of hours of footage, we have interviewed most of the top stars in sports entertainment, we have been granted access to venues like Madison Square Garden, the Toronto Sky Dome – and every local gym or hall you can think of.
On July 2, 2010, Ring Fever filmed at the MCU Park in Coney Island, which is home to the Brooklyn Cyclones and that night – home to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling – which was the first major promotion to come to Brooklyn in close to 30 years – and we were right there – again – like we always were…
…and after close to 10 years – absolutely nothing has changed.
From the moment we arrived at MCU Park – people flocked to us like moths to a flame. Instantly, people remembered us from the days of Fun Time USA, our Rock and Wrestling Extravaganzas and the local house shows. Everyone from fans like Susan Engel, to wrestlers like Joel Gertner, Simon Diamond and Prince Nana, to colleagues like Blackjack Brown, George Napolitano and King Jordan greeted us with hugs and memories – and I was honestly moved to tears. It has been a while since I filmed a Ring Fever episode due to life’s circumstances – and to have so many people still remember us was a memory I will never forget.
The show itself was a huge success. For their first time in my hometown, TNA did an amazing job of putting on a pay-per-view quality show in front of at least 6,000 hungry New York wrestling fans. The wrestlers pulled out all the stops and the crowd ate it up. We got some great interviews with wrestlers, legends in the business – and most importantly – the real stars of our show – the fans.
If you would like to see footage of the show, you can log on to www.ringfever.com, and while you’re there – you can visit our social networking sites, post on our forum – and maybe be a star on our next show.
I would personally like to thank Chris Thomas from TNA for allowing us the access he did, Lonnie, Brain, Rob and Julie of the Ring Fever crew for their talent – as well as every single person who either remembered us – or got to know us for the first time. We already have at least a half-dozen shows to cover over the next few months – and you can bet that the fever will spread when we’re there…
…and much longer after that.
