A Penny For My Thoughts

My New Years Resolution – What An Amazing Future There Will Be

By Paul Wein

Every year, my New Year’s Resolution discloses my hopes and dreams of what I want to happen in the next 365 days – along with my plan for the future year ahead. But truth be told, and not in an egotistical way because I am basing this on recent comments I have received from both my yearly review and comments from my superiors – I am, according to them, doing a great job – and have an amazing future awaiting me…

…so therefore – my New Year’s Resolution for 2010 is to continue doing the great job I have been doing (according to my superiors) – and await the amazing future there will be.

Due to the fact that my Modus Operandi has always been to work with people in person rather than through e-mails or phone calls, I have developed very positive relationships with very high level people in my organization – something my company lead told me yesterday that she admires (which I am honored by). After which I was told by her that I am liked by most of our high level Government leads. That fact, coupled with my positive review and generous raise – has given me the feeling that I have a very positive future with my company – and some serious job security…

…which has already made 2010 – eight days into it – a great year already.

Since I cannot disclose almost anything that I do, I will only say that thanks to my hard work and relationship building – my value and assignments have been elevated dramatically over the last few months – and I have been relied upon much more as of late by very high level Government leads than in the last two years that I have been in my current position. This is something I am very proud of because it “puts me out there” and I am seen as a more important asset. Most of the tasks I have done I have volunteered for – because I knew that I can get them done – and, at the same time, show my potential to my Government leads. I did not do these things for recognition – but rather to show that I would help them in any way I can and always will.

So as we “deep dive” into 2010, I am going to continue to be the best employee to my company – and the most loyal contractor to the Government that I can be. The reason for this is simple – because if this is the level of success I am achieving now…

…I can’t wait for this time next year to see where I am then.

Thank you to my company for your confidence in me – and thank you to my Government leads for your faith in me…

…I promise I will not let you down.

“I’ve been up and down and around and ‘round and back again.
I’ve been so many places I can’t remember where or when.
And my only boss was the clock on the wall and my only friend.
Never really was a friend at all.
Once I had myself a million, now I’ve only got a dime.
The difference don’t seem quite as bad today.
With a nickel or a million, I was searching all the time.
For something that I never lost or left behind.
Now I’m in my second circle and I’m heading for the top.
I’ve learned a lot of things along the way.
I’ll be careful while I'm climbing ‘cause it hurts a lot to drop.
And when you’re down – nobody gives a damn anyway.
I’ve traded love for pennies, sold my soul for less.
Lost my ideals in that long tunnel of time.
I’ve turned inside out and around about and back and then.
Found myself – right back where I started again.”
