A Penny For My Thoughts

Downs Syndrome

By Paul Wein

Have you ever gone into a fruit store to buy apples? Usually, among the hundreds of apples they have available, there are one or two bad ones that may look perfect on the outside, but on the inside are so rotten that no one wants them and they usually end up being left alone to rot. The same analogy can be said for people.

Think about it, if there are over 6.5 billion of us on this planet, there are bound to be some “rotten apples” among us. These “rotten apples” are much like the apples in the fruit store, they are usually enticing on the outside, but inside, they are rotten and sour and usually wind up being alone because no one wants them. Have you ever met a “rotten apple”?

I’m sure you have, all of us at one time or another, have run into one and known either right away or over time that this person was bad news. Sometimes, we find out right away because we get that “gut instinct” or “bad feeling” – or sometimes, we are so shrouded by what appears to be a good person with good intentions that we take them for what they make us believe they are only to realize that they are sour when it is too late. For example, have you ever woken up and made your first cup of coffee and poured in the milk only to realize it was sour after you took your first sip? That is what I mean.

History has shown us that we can, at times, be gullible and believe someone to be a good person with only our best interest at heart and when the smoke clears – there is only devastation and sorrow left. I’m sure you have heard the stories on the news of people who have conned others into giving them their life savings for a guaranteed huge return on their investment – only to take the money and run and leave their victim broke and with nothing. Or how about those televangelists that preach the word of God on television while asking for donations to keep their churches going – only to use that money for their own personal gain. Or worst of all – those psychic hotlines that make people believe their “psychics” can tell them their future for only $4.95 a minute – only to get busted for hiring people who have no psychic ability whatsoever and just want to make a few bucks by working at home.

My point is that as we make our way through the journey of life, we should all be weary of these “rotten apples” – because after you take your first bite – it may be too late.

How do I know so much about “rotten apples”? – how do you think I lost all of my stuff?
