There Is No Cure – But I Am Sick
By Paul Wein
About ten years ago, I started something with my friends Robert Santa and “C” that was without a doubt – revolutionary. Together, we built a show that was unlike anything anyone ever thought of. We had it all, fan support, backing from World Wrestling Entertainment – and credentials that let us go anywhere…
…and now – it is all in the toilet.
I’m talking about Ring Fever.
In the beginning, Rob and “C” asked me to bring our wrestling segments from Hole In The Wall to a spin-off show which would eventually become Ring Fever – and I of course said yes – and it was born. But besides being born – it became a powerhouse unlike anything the three of us expected. In fact, in a previous column entitled, An Incurable Fever, I wrote, “The show and website have been on for five months and so far, we have reached a status of popularity that I could not even dream of. Our message boards on our website are loaded with people who regularly post their thoughts, and the fans know and love our show so much that when we filmed Paul “The Big Show” Wight at Fun Time U.S.A., I wound up signing almost as many autographs as he did.”
And now – we are nothing.
The three of us met and they asked me to get some publicity for the show – and I got us a full page story in The Daily News, two local paper stories (one being a full color front page story) – and even a segment on Extra – so what more can I possibly do? We had everyone on the show, Hulk Hogan, Vince McMahon, The Undertaker, Edge, The Rock, Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Triple H – you name it. And where did the show go? – right in the garbage can.
I have not filmed an episode of Ring Fever in years – and believe me – I have had opportunities. Rob and “C” were either “too busy” or “not available” to do the taping. Truth be told, my own reputation in the wrestling business is hurting because I have this “show” that I promise to bring with me – and then I show up alone. We had something that changed the face of professional wrestling – and I had to sit by and watch it dwindle like a candle that would not be re-lit – well no more.
I am going to save money any way I can and buy back Ring Fever and bring it back to the show it was. Re-light the flame that made fans all over the world love what it is that we did. If Rob and “C” want to do nothing with the show then so be it…
…but I can no longer sit idly by – because I have a fever – and dammit – there still is no cure.
