Outbreak
By Paul Wein
I once saw an episode of Batman: The Animated Series called, “Beware The Grey Ghost.” In the episode, Batman seeks out the actor who played The Grey Ghost on television in order to solve a crime related to the old show. It turns out that after playing The Grey Ghost, the actor couldn’t find work. Sure, he tried to sell some Grey Ghost merchandise to pay the rent, but no one was buying. At the end of the episode, the actor realizes that the reason the merchandise won’t sell is because people have long forgotten about the show – because for all these years – he has had the entire catalog of Grey Ghost episodes tucked away at the bottom of his closet. So upon finally re-releasing the episodes – his loyal fans who have missed the show buy them like hot cakes – and he becomes a millionaire…
…which got me thinking.
For well over a decade, I have worked in the wrestling industry and amassed a library of footage that – not to sound egotistical – is truly unique. The reason I can say that with confidence is while other wrestling websites have pictures of fans meeting wrestlers and message boards containing the latest rumors in the business – Ring Fever has interviews with wrestlers who while talking to us – are wearing our T-shirts. We have exclusive footage in the backstage areas of local arenas, inside both the Nassau Coliseum and Madison Square Garden during both Raw and Nitro – and even inside Toronto’s CN Tower during Wrestlemania X8. We also have people like Edge, Lita, Test, Mick Foley, King Kong Bundy, Val Venis, Rocco Rock and others saying the line, “You’re Watching Ring Fever: Where The Fans Are The Stars.”
When the show first aired on Brooklyn Cable Access Television, that was our only outlet. The show’s producers, Rob, “C” and I tried to get the show on a national network, but were unsuccessful. But now, the world has changed thanks to the creation of MySpace and YouTube – which allow anyone on the planet to get to know you and even see videos of the things you have done…
…which got me thinking.
When our show was on BCAT, only 250,000 people were able to see it. So if Rob, “C” and I put up a Ring Fever MySpace page, put our episode catalog on YouTube – and once again put up a Ring Fever website – the show could be born again to an entirely new audience that has never seen it before…
…which got me thinking.
After a few phone calls back and forth, Rob “C” and I got together again for the first time in over five years. In doing so, we realized that like the reference I made earlier to The Grey Ghost – we have all been sitting on a goldmine of wrestling history that we can now dust off and do something with that we were never able to do before – show it to an audience of over six-and-a-half billion people. We have a concept that is unlike any other in the entire wrestling industry that – quite frankly – we invented. We have interviews with some of the top stars in the business. We have contacts throughout the wrestling world that will give us unprecedented access to future shows and events. And – most importantly – we already have a loyal fan base that still talks about the show and recognizes me wherever I go who are craving for Ring Fever to launch once again…
…which got me thinking.
If Ring Fever is a “disease” as we call it, and if, as our slogan says, “There Is No Cure,” then there is only one way to effectively spread such a plague…
…make it airborne.
So that is just what we did. After years of lying dormant – the Ring Fever plague is spreading once again. While once confined to the small borough of Brooklyn, New York – Ring Fever is now worldwide and able to be contracted by anyone who wishes. The wrestlers, the cast the crew – and the real stars of our show, the fans – are now available to anyone who wishes to see what we are all about. To do this, simply log on to www.ringfever.tv, check us out at www.myspace.com/ringfever, or go to www.youtube.com and do a query for, “Ring Fever.” In doing so, you can realize just what Ring Fever is – and why we will pick up right where we left off – and bring this plague across the globe and to heights we never reached before.
Watch our videos, read our blogs, join our message boards, and become one of the stars of our show – because while I may be the host – the fans of Ring Fever truly are the stars. Remember, with the success of MySpace and YouTube – the show could get picked up – and Ring Fever could become a multi-million dollar business…
…which got me thinking.
