A Penny For My Thoughts

Once You Buy A Prize, You’ve Made A Difference

By Paul Wein

Auctions are a great way to raise money for a worthy cause. By offering an item to the highest bidder, the organization gets much needed funds – and the winning bidder gets the item he or she so desperately wanted – a win-win for both sides.

On May 6 at the Sewane Club in Hewlett Harbor, there will be an auction for SIBSPlace, which is an organization that provides assistance and support for siblings of children with devastating diseases. This is one of the most unique and amazing organizations I have ever come across – and their auction is no different.

If you attend their event, with a donation of $150 per person and includes a cocktail hour, full dinner and open bar, you will be able to bid on some incredibly lavish items.

The items you will be able to bid on, at both a silent and live auction, include a Tauck World Discovery Tour of Rome, Capri and the Amalfi Coast for two that includes airfare; 100 man hours of carpentry work by Tom Schwartner; a game of your choice in the Chicago Cubs Owner’s Box at Wrigley Field, including two rooms for two nights at the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower and airfare for four; a one-week timeshare in Gurney’s Inn, diamond jewelry from Michael C. Fina, sports tickets, a 42” HD plasma TV from Home Appliance in Oceanside, gift certificates from some of the Island’s and city’s best eateries, and tickets to such shows as The View, the Martha Stewart Show and Saturday Night Live.

The proceeds from this amazing event will benefit South Nassau Communities Hospital’s SIBSPlace program, 1420 Broadway in Hewlett. They do incredible work, and with the funds raised from this event, will be able to help even more children who have siblings that are battling life-threatening diseases.

The cocktail hour and silent auction begin at 6:30 p.m. and dinner is served when the live auction begins at 8:15 p.m. The honoree of the evening is HHS Coach Bill Dubin, who has truly made a difference for the children of SIBSPlace.

If you would like more information on how to attend this event, call SNCH’s Development office at (516) 377-5360.

I wouldn’t miss this event for the world, because the children SIBSPlace helps deserve nothing less.
