Eight Years, Eight Hundred Columns, Eight Volumes
By Paul Wein
Every time I write another one hundred of my columns, I compile them into a book and publish it using the ISBN number I acquired through my publishing company, PW Publishing (0-9724234). And since I only have another eighteen to go until I get through this set of one hundred, I decided to start beginning the publishing process today, which includes filling out the forms necessary to officially publish the book, create the “Introduction,” “About The Author” and “Dedication” pages – and compile the “Table Of Contents.”
For the “Introduction” page, I dedicated the book to God, and thanked Him for, “the good and bad experiences herein that have helped me grow, and for my amazing journey down the road of life.” In the “Introduction” page, I wrote that, “Of all the things I have done and do – this column is my favorite part of my life.” And in the “About The Author” page, I mentioned that, “for the last eight years, Paul has documented his life in this eight volume set of columns. Over eight hundred strong, they document his unique existence since he was twenty-four years old.” And that is when I realized that this column is eight years old, eight hundred columns strong – and has been published in eight volumes.
I find it ironic that this column has evolved into a “triple eight” pattern, if you will. I could have written thousands of columns since I started it, but instead it has reached a very coincidental path. I wish I documented every day of my life for the last eight years – but although there have been some gaps in my writing – I am happy that the column is where it is today.
I find it truly flattering that people read it. While I do write many columns about the world in which we live – many of them, including this one – are about me. And while I am no one of importance or significance – people still enjoy them – and that is something I am truly grateful for. Another thing that I think is wonderful is the fact that many people I know who read my columns have begun writing columns of their own. In my opinion, everyone should document their journey down the road of life – so if I had a hand in inspiring anyone to begin doing that – then I am even more elated that I began to write this column.
Life is an amazing journey. Through good and bad, we travel down a “road” that leads us in many directions, and has a few sharp turns along the way. I am very thankful that I have documented the path that I have traveled. I love that I can go back and read a chapter of my life and, through the column, relive that moment of my existence. For the rest of my life – I will continue to record this wonderful life I live – and every step along the way.
