Me Against Computers
By Paul Wein
Did you ever see, the movie Terminator? The premise of the movie was that all of the Earth’s computers come to life. Although it was a great movie, I don’t see why that is so exciting, because that happens to my computer every day.
Electronic equipment and I do not get along. I have gone through more computers, TVs, CD players, cordless phones and VCRs than anyone, not because the equipment is defective, but because I am.
Since I learned how to plug something in, I have been called everything from "electronically spastic" to a "walking computer virus". I have made more things crash, shut down, erase, or need repair than I can count. Is there a cure for my ailment?
The newest example of my "electronicaphobia" came when I joined the Eagle and started to use their computers. So far, the scanner had to be rebooted, I have lost documents somewhere in “the system”, and I have screamed at each and every computer screen yelling, "Why won’t you work!" (an obvious form of projection)
I don’t know if there is anyone out there who suffers from the same disease as I, or if is there is a cure or vaccine for what I suffer. If anyone can suggest something, besides taking all electronic equipment within a 50-foot radius away from me, I would appreciate it.
They say that by the year 2000, most of the everyday things that we do will now be able to be done electronically – look out world, here I come.
