Party All The Time
By Paul Wein
Last night, Woody, Michelle and I threw a joint Holiday party – and it was one of the best gatherings I have ever had.
Throughout my life, I must have thrown hundreds of parties for dozens of different occasions. From a “Cinco De Mayo Party,” to an “I’m Still Alive Party” after one of my many heart surgeries – to an “It’s Just Friday Party” – many of my gatherings have become the talk of legend – and last night was no different.
Between our two apartments, we must have had at least sixty people join us for food, drinks and fun. My guest list included my friend Lisa who I have known since I was fifteen, my friend Jenna who I have not seen in almost a year, a handful of friends I work with at Fillmore Real Estate, many friends of friends of friends – and a truly amazing woman who was also named Lisa. Woody’s guest list included his and Michelle’s usual crowd, some of their colleagues – and Johnny Kelly – the guitarist from Type O Negative. On the menu was a Crudités Platter, some Hors d’oeuvres and chips and fresh salsa. At the bar was beer, red and white wine – and a few choice liqueurs.
I love to throw parties. I enjoy putting my house in perfect order and inviting all of the people I like to be around to my house for a party so I can enjoy the company of all of my friends at the same time – while they mingle and get to know each other as well. Last night, I saw friends of mine become friends with each other. I witnessed my friend Lisa’s fiancé Lyle realize that he went to school with my friend and neighbor Michelle. I saw friends of mine make plans to hang out with Woody and Michelle’s friends – and I felt very happy as I wandered through my house and saw many familiar and happy faces having a great time.
The party began at 8:00pm and ended when I called “Last Call” at 3:00am. To maximize space and ensure that both apartments would be visited, we put the food in their apartment and the drinks in mine. We had two different types of music going and even let people mingle in the hallway. No matter who came through the door, everyone interacted perfectly and acted as if they were friends for life instead of complete strangers – and that was a great thing to witness.
Since I woke up this morning and put my house back together, I have been in a great mood. Last night’s party was the first I have thrown in about a year-and-a-half. I love to entertain people and host gatherings that bring people joy – and thanks to Woody and Michelle who are truly responsible for the success of last night’s festivities – I once again threw a party to remember. And while I may not return to my “Party All The Time” routine – I may enjoy throwing a fun shindig every now and then.
