A Penny For My Thoughts

GOTCHA!

By Paul Wein

After nine months of hiding since U.S. led forces threw him out of power - Saddam Hussein is finally in custody.

When I heard the incredibly good news from my mother, I was very relieved and extremely happy. Saddam, in the last 35 years, has committed some of humanity's most horrific atrocities on the people of Iraq as their leader. From mass genocide, to raping women on an almost daily basis - to hoarding billions of dollars of his country's money from his people while allowing them to live in squalor - this man is one of the most ruthless dictators to ever come to power in history - and now he is in U.S. hands and will face justice for his many, many crimes.

When we found him, he was hiding in a "spider hole" underneath the mud pit of a farm house - ironically just yards from one of his many palaces that he built using the blood and bones of the people he murdered. Looking disheveled and filthy, the once powerful dictator has gone from living in homes with solid gold bathroom fixtures to moving once every few hours by traveling in the trunk of a taxi and hiding in dirty rooms and cramped hideouts - something I find a fitting punishment for the greedy bastard.

As I watched Fox News Channel and heard the way our troops found him, I thought of the troops that led the raid and could only imagine how the one member of our military forces felt when they opened the door of the "spider hole" and realized that they just found the most wanted man in Iraq. I think I would have had a heart attack if I was the one that found him. Finding Saddam is sort of like discovering the location of the Titanic, or finding King Tut's tomb. This find, however, is more of a treasure trove than anything else, because now that we have the "Ace of Spades" - the rest of the deck will surely fall.

I also am happy that the money he had on him - which by the way was $750,000 in U.S. currency - will be used to rebuild the country he spent 35 years destroying. If he hates us as much as he said he does - why does he have so much of our currency? And why did he have U.S. products like Dove soap on him when he was found? If you don't like us, don't use our money or our stuff.

The one part about finding Saddam that ticks me off is how the leaders of the countries that did not support the war and refused to send troops to help us in the war against Iraq have not only contacted President Bush and congratulated him on capturing Saddam - but have thanked him for taking Saddam out of power. Instead of them thanking President Bush, I will thank them for doing nothing but sitting back and criticizing the U.S. led forces as we removed a lethal dictator from power and restored freedom and hope to the Iraqi people. And now that Saddam is in custody, I hear they want to make contributions to help rebuild the country - they can keep it - along with their half-assed thank-yous that came far too late.

I think if anyone deserves a thank you - it is the men and women of our Armed Forces and the other military forces around the world that helped in the removal and recovery of the Iraqi dictator. Our troops are the most powerful fighting force in the world - and I think each and every American owes them a huge debt of gratitude for going through all they have gone through since this conflict began - and for the long road ahead of rebuilding Iraq. I will admit that I could never do what they do - so my gratitude, my praise and my prayers go out to each and every one of them - until the day they safely return home.

So with the most wanted Iraqi in custody, the world can rejoice that his evil regime is officially over - and that the justice he has evaded for so long will finally catch up with him.

Now let's find Osama.

"The jig is up, the news is out
they finally found me.
The renegade who had it made
retrieved for a bounty.
Never more to go astray.
This'll be the end today
of the wanted man."
