A True Web Master
By Paul Wein
For the last five years, I have had a place of my own on the world wide web in the form of www.paulwein.com. Since the creation of the website, I have had a few of my friends selflessly do the site for me - and they did a great job. But with all due respect to them - no one has done a better job on my site then Dan.
A very accomplished website builder, Dan has done a site for himself, as well as all of the South Park related sites for the Convention and corresponding Digests. He has also set up "stores" for South Park merchandise from all three conventions as well as certain Factions of Digest members.
My website was not only down for close to a year - but I had even lost the name paulwein.com because I forgot to renew it. Losing my website was a big disappointment for me. I lost a lot of contacts, had nowhere to publish my columns - not that I was writing at the time - and was asked what happened to my website so many times that I wanted to scream.
A few months ago, I got an e-mail from Dan who told me to check out a website he was working on - to discover to my amazement that the site he was working on was mine. Totally on his own, he decided to rebuild my website from the ground up, incorporating everything that is a part of my life. As I saw the page load, I could not believe that he did this for me. Sure we are good friends, but to take that kind of initiative on his own and do it for free was a true testament of the kind of guy Dan is.
When I went down to Chicago to see him, Kandice and the kids, we got up early one morning and put most of the content on the site while everyone slept. I could not believe how fast he was putting up the content. From pennies to pictures to a fully functioning store and message board - he did to my site in one day what took others months to do.
Since the site was first put up, I have been sending him content to add almost every day - and each time I send him content - he puts it up less than an hour after I send it to him. I don't think a full day has passed without him updating my site with the new content I send him. Even when I sent him the pictures from the day I spent with Jimmie Johnson and the pictures from my weekend in Florida - he had them on the site in less than two days - amazing.
Even more amazing is that he will not take a dime from me for all of the tremendous effort and hard work he puts into my site. The work he has done could have made him at least a thousand dollars - but he tells me he is more than happy to do it - because he is my friend.
I can't thank Dan enough for all that he has done. By rebuilding and maintaining my site, he has helped me get my life back together in a very big way - and has made the site better then it has ever been. I have always considered him one of my closest friends, and now I think even more highly of him for his selfless effort - and his much needed assistance.
Thanks a lot Dan - you can post this now.
